Do you pray to god for happiness?

I have always seen people praying to god and asking for only one thing:Happiness. All they want is to be happy. They believe that asking for just one thing, which comprises of the thousand things they need, is a better and short-cut option. Somehow I dont think so. I think one doesnt know what all one wants and to avoid the arduous task of finding out what will make him happy, he asks the god to make him happy.
I feel that being happy is like flying in the air. I am sure most of us would have felt that. Asking for happiness is asking for a ride in air. So long as you pray, you fly. The moment you stop, you fall. You are not flying because you know flying, you are flying because you had asked for it. Think if you would have asked for learning the art to fly. Think if you would have asked for stamina to fly, think if you would have asked for the time to fly, think if you would have asked for the company to fly with. Think dude think.
Think that instead of asking for making you happy, you would have asked for thorough knowledge, for good friends, for higher IQ, for better communication skills, etc., and created the happiness yourself. Noone can steal knowledge from you. Sounds like cliche, right? But it is true. Noone can unlearn the art you have learnt.
The great soldiers never pray to god to win the war, they pray, "god make me fast and accurate". How long you can enjoy the happiness which is not your hard earned.

'God help those who help themselves', is like giving alms to those who earn.
Is God useless?
